## What it is and why it exists
When users say that IBM ELM "feels slow", administrators need facts quickly: is it the network, the database or one application? Is anything reported as broken on the server? In IBM ELM the answers are spread over several places: a performance widget that checks one server at a time, and a separate diagnostics page in the administration of each application (Jazz Team Server, DOORS Next, Engineering Test Management, Engineering Workflow Management, Global Configuration).

Advanced Server Diagnostics brings both into one widget. It measures every application from the user's own browser and shows the health checks of all applications side by side, so a problem is found in minutes instead of by opening page after page.

## Problems it solves
- Complaints about a slow server with no numbers to compare or share.
- Performance checks that cover only one application at a time.
- Health checks hidden in the administration pages of each application, opened one by one.
- Problems such as an unreachable registered application or outdated database statistics that stay unnoticed.

## Benefits
- **One view of all applications:** response time, database time, download and upload speed per application.
- **Clear ratings:** values beyond your own thresholds are marked slow, failures are named with their reason.
- **The diagnostics of every application in one place,** grouped by application, with errors and warnings shown first.
- **Run checks again** for one diagnostic or for all of them, without leaving the dashboard.
- **Excel export** to share with IT, IBM support or your hosting provider.
- **Changes nothing** on the server and works on the ELM Mini Dashboard of any ELM application.

## How to use
1. Add the widget to the ELM Mini Dashboard of any ELM application. The last results of the diagnostics appear at once, with their numbers at the top.
2. All applications are chosen by default: to leave one out for now, click **Change** under **Applications**. Then click **Performance**: each application is measured in turn. Or click **Run all** to run the performance test and then all diagnostics in one go.
3. Open an application group to read its diagnostics, or click **Diagnostics** to check them all again now. The run icon on a row checks one diagnostic; **Errors and warnings** shows only the problems.
4. After a run, the result block at the top says what happened, with the numbers. Save the results to Excel with **Log** in the result block or with the download icon.

## Good to know
- **Diagnostics are for administrators (JazzAdmins).** The performance test works for every user.
- The values are measured from the user's own browser, so they include the user's network: compare them between locations to find network problems.
- Sign in to the Jazz Team Server first: the widget reuses that login for the other applications, one after the other, so they do not each ask for a login where the server allows it. Where a login is still needed, it shows a link to sign in.
- More applications and the thresholds for "slow" can be set in the widget settings.
